Intercultural Training – Demystifying the Germans

Interactive Workshop

Ever wonder why Germans like to book their December holidays in January? Why they would never run a red light?

Are you a foreign national working in Germany? Do you wonder why Germans focus so much on pre-planning and only work on one task at a time? Why they don’t like to engage in small talk or give heartfelt praise? Why they say directly what they mean? Do you understand how they deal with time, conflict and  hierarchy?

If you would like to find out more about the spoken and unspoken rules that prevail in the workplace and society, then my 4-hour interactive workshop on “Demystifying the Germans” is exactly right for you.  We will look at general stereotypes and why we humans even “think in stereotypes.” You’ll find out all about general communication and the German way of communicating in particular. Together we’ll explore how to deal with conflict, how to avoid faux-pas both in social life as well as in the business world.

By the end of the workshop you might still not agree with everything but you’ll have a much deeper understanding of why Germans do things a certain way and that if they seem reserved it has nothing to do with you personally. You will feel much more at ease and self-confident in your new surroundings.

For my intercultural training Germany – workshop I use the collaborative software MURAL. I designed the workshop for a maximum of 6 participants. The workshop is a lively mix of theory, and active participation and collaboration.

My role is to be a facilitator and consultant. I recommend that you follow up on the workshop with an individual one-on-one coaching session to clarify any issues you are facing in Germany. I am not a business coach but I can consult on any topics related to culture and/or language. If you’re curious to find about more about my background and experience, please take a look at my “about me” page.

If you would also like to improve your German I’d be happy to help you withy any needs you have.

Open Workshop

Once a month I hold an open workshop for which anyone can sign up (as long as there is space). So even if your company is not getting a group together you can still join and benefit from the content. After the 4 hour session you can freely decide if you would like to follow up with a 1:1 remote session to discuss your personal situation in more detail.

Please drop me a line through the contact form if you’re interested in joining the next session or have any questions.

“I had an opportunity to attend the workshop-‘Demystifying the Germans’ conducted by Nina.

I was intrigued by the varied range of topics covered  in the session like the German behavior, culture, communication style etc.

The session was fun, interactive and most beneficial for expats. It helped me understand the intricacies of German culture and behavior.

There was never a dull moment during the workshop, thanks to Nina’s wit, humor and energy.

I also had a few German language sessions with Nina, she is an excellent German teacher. She shared some really useful tips and tricks to remember the rules of the Grammar and to learn the language.

Thanks a lot, Nina!”

“The title, “Demystifying the Germans” immediately caught my attention.

The session was well planned, beautifully bringing feeling and our personal experiences within the fold of the discussion to make the topic come alive for all of us.

We had some key insights about the German psyche and how it influences our interactions with them.

The cherry on-top was a 1:1 with Nina in the weeks following the group discussion to hash through our own unique questions and concerns about work and life in Germany.

I would highly recommend Nina and the insightful course content.”

“I found “Demystifying the Germans” absolutely great and the trainer (Nina) was very professional and able to explain the differences very detailed & clear. It was great that the workshop had both quality presentations and a conversational part.
I have been in Germany for 4 years, but I feel like this session really answered many questions that I had on my mind – I got good tools both for my private and working life.
I think the group size of 6 people is the maximum to keep the good conversation going and learning from others’ experiences.”

“We were really curious about what we could learn about the German culture and how it would help us interact and understand people better.

Nina made this workshop fun, interactive and insightful. We can fully recommend the workshop for all ex-pats whether new in Germany or already integrated.

It explains a number of typical behaviours and reactions that maybe sometimes seemed strange to us and has opened our eyes to the background and reasons for these and ways to interact better.”

Thank you again for such an insightful workshop.
