Learning a new language can be a daunting task, but with the help of modern technology, it has become easier and more accessible than ever before. One of the most popular ways to learn a language is through online lessons, and Skype is one of the most widely used platforms for this purpose. It is incredibly easy to use, also through a browser if you can’t log in to your account for any reason.

Of course any other videoconferencing tool like Zoom, Teams, Webex, Facetime, etc would also work.

Suitable for all levels

When you start to learn German via Skype, it doesn’t matter whether you are a complete beginner or already use German at an advanced level. Together we can work on improving your language skills in a manner and time frame that suit you perfectly.

As most of you will have experience in working from home via various videoconferencing platforms,  you will know that learning online (with or without a camera) is just like a personal face to face class, with the added benefit of complete freedom of location, time and content.

Flexibility and Convenience

One of the most significant advantages of learning German via Skype is the flexibility it offers. You can schedule your lessons at a time that suits you, whether that is early in the morning or late at night. Moreover, you can take the lessons from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection. This means that you can take lessons while traveling or from the comfort of your own home. Additionally, with the use of a webcam, you can have a personal face-to-face class just like in a real classroom.

Using the Camera

About 90% of all communication is non-verbal, therefore being able to see the speaker’s body language and facial expressions helps you a lot to understand better. However, should you feel shy or introverted or simply want to focus on authentic on-the-phone-situations, you can always turn off your camera. An option you don’t have in a real classroom situation!

Language Skills

If you already have prior knowledge of German, I can ensure that you keep your level and really enjoy speaking in your target language. You decide what skills you would like to focus on: speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, writing, grammar, or a combination of all.

If you need German more for business, we can also focus on any topics you might have: preparing presentations and reports, emailing, meetings, negotiations, etc.

Since the class is all about you, you will never have to focus on anything that isn’t important to you. This means for you no wasting your valuable time on tasks and topics and skills that aren’t currently relevant to you. Of course the focus of the lessons can be adjusted any time.

Your Goals

Should you have more ambitious goals or need to prove your current language level, I can help you prepare in our lessons for any test you may have to take, be it a general grammar exam, one of the “Goethe Zertifikate”, IB, a placement test, an oral examination or a job interview.

In any case we will focus on the goal you have set yourself.

This can be non-academic, like becoming a more confident speaker,

personal, like wanting to be able to travel independently or of course

any goal or category you would like to define.

Skype Chat

Real-Time Corrections and Explanations

When you learn German via Skype all corrections and explanations can be done in real time by using the chat box.

Unlike the whiteboard or a flip chart in the classroom, Skype’s chat history does not get deleted. Your teacher’s  notes will be there for you any time you wish to go over them.

And the best thing is, I do all the note-taking for you, so you can fully concentrate on the language and the task at hand.

Materials

All materials and files I will share with you via the free services of Google Docs or Dropbox. I can also upload files during the lesson, so there is no more waiting for photocopies.

You can of course download the worksheets, edit or print them. When you are done working with them you can upload them again to our shared folder and we will go over your work.

Should you come across any interesting articles, files, etc you can share them with me the same way. No more scanning through emails or (lost) attachments!

There’s also always plenty of extra materials for you in the Dropbox. Should you find yourself with extra time on your hands there’s no excuse for you to not study! The files are all clearly labeled and organised into grammatical categories and subfolders.
